Combel Editorial México

Safely migrating a malware-infected PrestaShop store to a clean, up-to-date version without losing the catalogue.

The Challenge

Combel Editorial México, a publisher specialising in children’s and young readers’ books, ran its online store on PrestaShop 1.7. The store had been infected with malware, putting both its security and its day-to-day functioning at risk. The challenge wasn’t just removing the infection, but doing so without risking the large existing product catalogue (hundreds of book listings, collections and product pages), which would otherwise have to be rebuilt from scratch.

The Solution

Rather than trying to disinfect the original installation, risking leftover malware or a compromised catalogue, we cloned the store and worked on an independent copy. On that copy, we updated PrestaShop to its latest version, fully removed the malware, and migrated all the content (products, categories, images and product pages) to the new, clean and up-to-date installation. This approach modernised the platform without losing the publisher’s existing catalogue work.

The Result

The result is an online store that has been fully renewed on the technical and security side, with Combel Editorial’s entire catalogue migrated intact and running on an up-to-date version of PrestaShop.
